SCRIPTURE QUEST
Version 4.3
PURPOSE:
"Scripture Quest" was written for the purpose of testing one's
knowledge of the Bible. Questions dealing with Bible word
meanings, doctrines, prophecies, commandments, history, bio-
graphy, and geography are some of the types of questions that
will be found within this program.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Any IBM PC or true compatible with 128K RAM (or above) and
using DOS 3.0 and above will run "Scripture Quest". The program
requires one disk drive and will work with both monochrome and
color monitors.
LOADING THE PROGRAM:
Insert the "Scripture Quest" diskette into a drive. Set your
working drive to the same drive at which the diskette is lo-
cated. Then to load the program simply type ---> SQ
then press <ENTER>. The program will load automatically.
You will first be greeted with two title screens. After this
enter the number of participants playing (maximum 9), fol-
lowed by their names (maximum 13 characters). If users with
monochrome monitors encounter display problems with this pro-
gram, then load the program with parameter ---> SQ /MONO
For laptop users, sometimes the highlighted marker bar is
not visible on certain machines, try loading the program --->
SQ /LAPTOP
ANSWERING QUESTIONS:
"Scripture Quest" has available over 1600 different Bible
questions. These questions will be selected at random by your
computer. The user does, however, have the choice of deter-
mining the general category from which these questions will
be chosen. Your choices are either Old Testament, New Tes-
tament, or Both Testaments.
PLAY OPTIONS:
The user(s) also has the option of playing against the clock.
When playing against the clock, the longer it takes to select
the correct answer the fewer points awarded will be. The
quicker the correct response, the higher the points. Double
bonus points will be awarded if the user selects the correct
answer while a string of hearts appear on the top line of the
screen.
If the user wishes to limit the number of questions attempted
per session, then add the following command line parameter when
you begin "Scripture Quest":
SQ /STOPAT=##
...where "##" is replaced with a number which when reached will
AUTOMATICALLY display the "Top Ten" scoreboard and end the
program. Or the user can stop the program after a certain
number of minutes have elapsed since the beginning of the
program by using:
SQ /TIMEOUT=##
...where "##" is replaced with the number of minutes. For
instance, "/TIMEOUT=15" will cause "Scripture Quest" to
terminate after 15 minutes of play have elapsed.
Printouts of the questions viewed can be obtained by selecting
the appropriate printout option. There are two printout op-
tions: 1) All questions/answers will be printed, and 2) Only
incorrect questions/answers will be printed. After every 10
questions the correct answers (along with references) will be
printed on a separate page.
TO EXIT THE PROGRAM:
To exit the program press the <ESC> key when the message "[ESC]
FOR OPTIONS" appears. A list of options (including "Exit
Scripture Quest") can be chosen. The opportunity to change
question categories, printout status, number and names of play-
ers, redisplay/repeat questions, and clock play is also of-
fered at this time. An <ESC> key here will return the user(s)
back to the program where they had left off. If the user(s)
decided to quit, then a chart of the top ten scores will be
displayed and updated on the screen. To return to DOS, press
any key.
TOP TEN SCORES:
"Scripture Quest" will record the ten highest scores and save
this data to the disk. Since this routine must write to the
disk, the disk must NOT be write protected.
The default sort index for the "Top Ten" scoreboard is based
upon the POINTS category. Users with the highest POINTS are
placed at the top of the scoreboard. For those who would like
to have the "Top Ten" scoreboard sort based upon the highest
PERCENTAGE of correct answers, then add the following parameter
to the command line when starting "Scripture Quest":
SQ /SORT=PCT
